Reproductive rate in rabbits

The choice of the reproductive rate of any rabbit farm depends on many variables and it is important to get as much technical-reproductive use from the exploitation as possible.

The reproductive rate of a rabbit farm is an interval of days of the whole reproductive cycle, calculated between  calving and mating.
There are several possible reproductive rates (4 days, 11 days, 18 days, 25 days, 32 days, 39 days) and they change the age of the rabbits at weaning (35 days at weaning mating 11 days postpartum, 42 days old at mating to 18 days, 49 days old at mating to 25 days and 56 days old at weaning in mating to 32 days postpartum).
To decide which rate is better, several factors should be taken into account, such as the type of facilities, handling, animals' health, geographic location, slaughter facilities (weight at sacrifice) and personal reasons.
Very often on the farms with multiple bands linear increase of the breeders is produced in the cycles of 25 or more days postpartum, ocupying the space which is in other intervals are used for fattening. In this case there is a cost increase due to the extra breeders on the farm, but this increase is consistent with the profitability of the farm.
The usual rate on the farms is mating 11 days postpartum. The adoption of a slower rate could be an aid to improve health aspects and try to reduce drug treatments on the farm. This way a better sanitary state of the breeder is achieved, and thus, a better development of the rabbits in fattening.
